Capital

The Fire Authority is requesting a capital millage on a special election scheduled for May 7, 2019.  The request is for up to 0.89 mills for 12 years and will cover capital purchases for the Fire Authority.  This includes:

  • Replacement, repair, and Additions to five fire stations based on our strategic plan and needs of the Authority.
  • Continue the replacement and addition of Fire Authority apparatus based on replacement schedule to aid in ensuring apparatus are ready to respond when needed.

Who is Eligible to Vote?

All residents of the Brighton Area Fire Authority are eligible to vote on May 7, 2019.  This includes residents of…

  • Genoa Township
  • City of Brighton
  • Brighton Township

Why an additional Millage?

The Fire Authority staff and the board has been working to develop a strategic plan to replace, repair and maintain our Fire Stations and Apparatus based on our response model as well as the growing needs of our Community.  The current operating millage of 1.50 is sufficient to fund our daily operations and does not allow for the Authority to build, replace or provide additions to Fire Stations.

The Fire Authority is anticipating asking voters to continue our current 1.5 mil millage after its last collection in 2020.
